Our Story

Tartoer is an independent specialty coffee bar, bakery and micro-roastery in Antwerp, Belgium, founded in 2013.

The facts

  • Tartoer roasts all of its coffee in-house at its own micro-roastery in Antwerp, on a Giesen W6 roaster. We roast single-origin specialty coffees in small batches with a light roast profile.
  • All pastry is baked in our own bakery — vegan and vegetarian, made fresh daily.
  • Plant-based milk is the norm at Tartoer: oat, soy, almond and coconut milk are free of charge, and the vast majority of our milk drinks are served with oat milk.
  • Tartoer has two coffee bars in Antwerp — Korte Koepoortstraat 2 (city centre) and Ossenmarkt 23 (university quarter) — plus a seasonal Zomerbar at the Stuivenberg site, where the roastery is located.
  • Tartoer & Taart, our design foodtruck, brings specialty coffee and homemade pastry to corporate and private events.
  • Our beans are available in the bars, in our online shop, and wholesale for cafés, restaurants and offices.

Our story

What started in 2013 as a coffee and cake bar has grown into a small Antwerp coffee family: two bars, a bakery, a summer bar and — the proudest step — our own roastery. Roasting ourselves means we control every step from green bean to cup, and it lets us serve exactly the kind of coffee we love: bright, clean and full of origin character.

From bean to heart.

At Tartoer, we roast specialty coffee with care, curiosity, and a love for honest craft. Each batch is roasted on our Giesen W6 in small quantities to highlight the character of every origin — from bright and floral Ethiopian beans to chocolatey Brazilian and smooth Colombian or Peruvian coffees.

Micro Roastery

We roast in small batches to keep things personal and precise. Each origin — Ethiopia, Brazil, Colombia, or Peru — tells its own story through taste.

Our approach is simple: roast light to let the coffee speak for itself. No blends hiding behind uniformity — just honest single origins, sourced with respect and roasted with intention.
